Brentwood vs. Farragut (Knoxville)

The Admirals of Farragut marched on to the Bruins’ home battlefield on Saturday evening and when it was over, they surrendered to a 12-4 loss, as the Bruins moved their record to 5 wins, 0 losses.

Brentwood took control at the end of the first quarter and maintained the lead the rest of the way. The last three games have started slow for the blue and gold, as it has taken them the first part of the opening quarter to get in gear. Once the offensive light goes on though, they have cruised to victory.

Saturday’s game was no different as Farragut opened up the scoring and took a 1-0 lead near the end of the first quarter. The Bruins woke up as Patrick Gill scored to tie it at 1. Brentwood then netted three goals in the last two minutes of the quarter to take a 4-1 advantage. Farragut continued to hang around as the game progressed largely due to Brentwood’s penalties, which provided Farragut with several man up advantages on offense. The Bruins took a 7-3 lead into halftime.

Coach Catterton was not getting the performance he wanted on either end of the field, and was looking for more precise execution. The boys responded in the second half, but still struggled on team defense as they took twelve penalties for the game vs. Farragut’s two.  Lacrosse is a battle for 48 minutes and in the end, the Bruins were more athletic, deeper in talent and more skilled overall than the Admirals.

The depth of talent for Brentwood continues to shine in each game as ten players contributed to the scoring. The Bruins even scored when down one player in the third quarter due to a penalty. Sam Wyatt won 6 of 8 face offs and Sam Wudell won 4 of 6 to help the offense control the ball. The point leaders on the night were Patrick Gill with 5 goals, and Sam Wyatt with 4 goals and an assist. Others with offensive points were; Tarpley, 1 goal, 2 assts, Wudell, 2 assts, Raffanti and Hart each with 1 goal, and Sanders, Springer ,  McGaw and Herline each with 1 asst.

Defensively, the team took too many penalties, but worked well in short handed and even strength situations to limit Farragut’s scoring chances. Preston Stapp had 9 saves while allowing 4 goals and Colin Hart created 10 Admiral turnovers.

Brentwood has two games coming up including Tues 3/23 at JPII and Wed 3/24 vs. MBA at Crockett Park.
