Brentwood vs. Ravenwood 3/30

The Bruins took their 7-2 record across town to face the Raptors Tuesday night, and walked out with a 10-6 victory.

Ravenwood made the move to Division I for the 2006 season after winning the Division II state championship in ‘05, then went on to win the Division I championship two years later in ‘07. They have established themselves as one of the top public schools in the state.

The two teams have played five other times since Ravenwood opened in 2004, and Brentwood has lost all five games.  This night would be different.  Brentwood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on a goal by Jason Springer, but Ravenwood soon tied it at 1. The Bruins opened up a small lead by halftime and went into the break ahead 4-2. Ravenwood came back with three goals in the third quarter, but never had the lead as the third quarter ended 6-5 in favor of the Bruins.

When two talented teams with strong defenses play, it generally takes until the fourth quarter for the offenses to get their chances.  The Bruins were impressive all night with their offensive possessions, taking their time, showing patience and creating quality shots. When the ball was loose, Brentwood won most of the challenges.  The Bruins stretched out the lead to 8-5 before the Raptors responded with a goal to pull within two. Brentwood netted two more in the closing minutes to seal the victory.

The Bruins played a solid game with very few mistakes, and played their first penalty free game. The offense was led by Sam Wyatt who took face offs, played midfield and attack. He finished the night with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Jason Springer contributed 3 goals and 1 assist, Patrick Gill had 2 goals, 1 assist and defenseman Colin Hart contributed 2 goals, as he had his first multi-goal game of the season. Preston Stapp, once again came up big when it counted and made 9 saves in the win.

There is a good chance that Brentwood and Ravenwood will meet again in the playoffs.
